Senior Scientific Officer Clinical Trials

I previously worked as a DNA Sequencing Scientist before joining the Sample Handling Laboratory in Oxford Cancer Trials. I have a Master’s in Experimental Therapeutics obtained from the University of Oxford. In my role as Senior Scientific Officer Clinical Trials, I lead a five-person team. The team is responsible for processing research samples from the early phase, late phase oncology and haematology clinical trial patients before onward shipping to analysis laboratories globally. Due to the fast-paced nature of the laboratory and the high volume of trials which the laboratory is involved with, organisation, flexibility and managing many deadlines is key in this role.

I manage the quality management system for the laboratory, ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments are in place and current. Amongst other management tasks, I am responsible for recruitment and training of all new Sample Handling Laboratory staff. I also sit on three different trial steering committees, provide insight into sampling queries and help write/review laboratory manuals for new clinical trials when requested.
