Oford Cancer Trials is embedded within the University of Oxford and NHS. Oxford Cancer currently comprises over 900 members from around 90 different Departments, Units, Institutes of the University, as well as the NHS Trust who invest over £55m each year into translational cancer research.
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Oxford Cancer Trials is embedded within the Oxford Cancer and Haematology Centre at the Churchill Hospital part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust a world renowned centre of clinical and research excellence. The Churchill Hospital is a regional cancer centre with over 70 non-surgical oncology and haematology specialists and caters for a population of 2 million rising to 10 million for rarer tumours. On site are extensive cancer treatment and diagnostic facilities including surgical oncology theatres, an intensive care unit, acute oncology and haematology in patient wards and state of the art cancer imaging including CT, MRI and PET-CT.

Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC)
Oxford is one of 17 Adult ECMCs in the UK receiving funding from the NHR and CRUK. The aims of the Oxford ECMC are to accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and deliver programmes of biomarker research to facilitate selection of patients for cancer therapy. The Oxford ECMC provides funding to Oxford Cancer Trials and the Translational Histopathology Laboratory.

Department of Oncology, University of Oxford
Oxford Cancer Trials are embedded within the University of Oxford Department of Oncology (link) was formed in 2011, and brings together world-leading research teams in medical, radiation and surgical oncology. Professor Mark Middleton currently leads the Department, and Professor Amato Giaccia, the Oxford Radiobiology Research Institute. The department has over 400 clinical and non-clinical staff dedicated to cancer research with a strong emphasis on translation and is based in the Old Road Campus Research Building.

University of Oxford Old Road Campus Translational Infrastructure and Institutes
The Old Road Campus is home to the Churchill Hospital and also many of the leading biomedical institutes at the University of Oxford including the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genomics, the Richard Doll Building (housing epidemiological studies and clinical trials services), the Nuffield Department of Medicine Research Building, Target Discovery Institute, Big Data Institute, Oxford Bioescalator, and the Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford. Additionally, the Old Road Campus Research Building houses the Department of Oncology, Ludwig Cancer Research, Centre for Medicines Discovery, Jenner Institute and Institute for Biomedical Engineering.
Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Oxford Cancer Centre
Translational and basic cancer research occurs across Oxford University and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust with over £55M invested into translational cancer research each year university wide. Oxford Cancer is an inclusive network of organisations in Oxford for whom cancer research is a priority. Many of the 900 members of Oxford Cancer have ongoing collaborations with the Oxford Cancer Trials team adding significant value to our drug development research program.
NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre
The NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is a collaboration between the University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to fund medical research. It was one of the first five BRCs funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in 2007 and on 1 December 2022 it began its fourth round of funding – £89 million to support healthcare research over the next five years.
