Where We Work
The Old Road Campus is at the heart of the University of Oxford’s world-leading biomedical research and is based on the Churchill Hospital site adjacent to the Cancer Centre.
Churchill Hospital site
In March 2009, we moved into the new Oxford Cancer Centre on the Churchill site. This £110 million project saw the relocation of services for both surgical and non-surgical oncology and haematology into the new build. In close proximity to our clinical trials facility are the oncology and haematology wards for acute admissions, a linked 5 bed emergency oncology and haematology triage area, surgical theatres, radiology and the intensive care unit. The Cancer Centre has state of the art imaging with CT and MRI, and two PET-CT scanners.
The Department supports five district general hospitals: The Horton Hospital (Banbury), Stoke Mandeville Hospital (Aylesbury), Wycombe General Hospital (High Wycombe), the Great Western Hospital (Swindon) and Milton Keynes University Hospital.
Old Road Campus
The largest research facility is the Old Road Campus Building (ORCB) which houses many institutes and departments, including the Department of Oncology and Ludwig Cancer Research.
The Target Discovery Institute (TDI) has a remit to identify drug targets, molecules or molecular interactions that are predicted to being amenable to therapeutic manipulation.
The Big Data Institute (BDI) is an interdisciplinary research institute that focuses on the analysis of large, complex, heterogeneous data sets for research into the causes and consequences, prevention and treatment of disease.
